The College of New Jersey men’s basketball team beat host Stockton University 66-62 on Wednesday in a New Jersey Athletic Conference game in Galloway Township.
Stockton dropped to 2-2 overall and 0-2 in the conference. The Lions are 4-2 overall and 2-0 NJAC.
Stockton led 62-59 with under four minutes left but didn’t score again. TCNJ”s Eric Murdock (23 points) hit a 3-pointer to tie it with 3:29 remaining, and teammates Bobby Brackett and Kevin Bloodgood added layups.
Tom Catanoso (Middle Township) led Stockton with 19 points, while Brandon Hamilton added 14 points and three assists. Zavon Johnson scored 10 points for the Ospreys, and Darius Jerkins (Mainland Regional) had nine rebounds and two blocks. The Ospreys travel to Ramapo College on Saturday for a 1 p.m. game in Mahwah.
Stockton women: The College of New Jersey beat host Stockton 63-58, the Ospreys’ first loss of the season. Sasha Williams led Stockton with 18 points, nine rebounds, four assists and a game-high five blocks.
Stockton dropped to 4-1 overall and 1-1 in the NJAC. The Ospreys have played all five games at home. TCNJ is 2-2 overall and 1-1 in the conference.
TCNJ led throughout the first half and was up 35-29 at intermission. The Ospreys took the lead at 54-53 on a 3-pointer by Mikila Stefanski (Cedar Creek) with 5 minutes, 25 seconds left in the game. But Kim Dana, who led the Lions with 17 points, gave her team the lead for good at 55-54 with just more than five minutes remaining.
Taylor Christina and Stefanski each added nine points for the Ospreys, and Najha Treadwell had eight rebounds. For TCNJ, Chiara Palombi scored 16 points.
Stockton visits Ramapo on Saturday for a 3 p.m. game.
