Stockton University’s softball team defeated The College of New Jersey in the first game of a doubleheader Tuesday 2-1 in eight innings.
In the second game, the teams tied 5-5 in another eight-inning game.
In Game 1, Carli Shaw went 2 for 4 with two runs scored. Holly Arentowicz had two hits with one RBI. In the bottom of the eighth with Stockton down 3-2, Shaw started the inning off with a double to reach second. Alexa Massa was intentionally walked, followed by a hit from Alexanda Cosenzo. Cosenzo made it to first on an error from TCNJ (11-14-1, 6-5-1 NJAC), scoring Shaw to win the game.
In Game 2, Cosenzo went 3 for 4 with two RBIs. Shaw had three runs scored, and Massa had one hit with one RBI. Stockton (16-13-1, 3-8-1 NJAC) went into the eighth inning down 5-2. Casey Thomas started the inning with a double. Ashley Lobell grounded out to advance Thomas to third. Morgan DiVello grounded out to score Thomas. Shaw was walked next, and Massa singled to put Shaw on second. Cosenzo singled to score Shaw, and Daniela Marinaro was brought in to pinch run. Arentowicz singled to right field for the game-tying RBI.
Stockton’s next game will be at Neumann University at 3 p.m. Thursday.
