Absecon Inlet gave up another heavyweight flounder.
Phil Todd went fishing on one of the rockpiles in Absecon Inlet and celebrated Father's Day on Sunday with a flounder that whopper that weighed 17.5 pounds. Curt Riccardi reported Monday from Offshore Enterprises in Atlantic City that it was a full 3-feet in length. Todd lives in Egg Harbor Township, Riccardi said.
The Press Fishing Contest and New Jersey state record summer flounder is 19 pounds, 12 ounces and was caught way back in 1953 by Walter Lubin of Philadelphia while fishing off Cape May. That is the oldest record on The Press Fishing Contest books.
Todd's catch might be one of the heaviest flounder caught "other than boat" in the state.
