The Brigantine Hooked On Fishing Not Drugs Tournament will be held tomorrow (July 28) and it is open to anyone age 5 to 15. Registration is free and will start 8 a.m. at 16th Street beach in Brigantine.

This is an annual event organized by the Brigantine Municipal Alliance. It's a neat program for young anglers that includes free rod and reel to the first 100 to sign up, free t-shirts and lunch; and a demonstration by Coast Guard rescue swimmers.

The two offshore big-game tournaments had a rough opening day Thursday.

One boat sailed in the Beach Haven Marlin & Tuna Club White Marlin Invitational and none dared test the rocky conditions in the Avalon Offshore Open. Obviously, there were no weigh-ins.

Both tournaments have scheduled fishing days today (July 27) and Saturday (July 28).

Jim Moran said Friday morning from Moran's Dockside in Avalon that all 20 skippers entered in the Open are scheduled to fish Saturday. The weigh-ins are 5:30-7:30 Avalon Fishing Center, 14th and Ocean Drive.
