July 4 was a great beach day with spectacular weather after an attention-getting morning thunderstorm that broke for citizens to enjoy a warm ocean with mild conditions and excellent fishing.

Maybe it was enough to help some locals start to get back to normal after the great blast we had a few days ago.

Robin Scott weighed an 8-pound flounder caught by Harrison Singer of Margate on Wednesday while fishing at Ocean City Reef. Scott said they had the doormat hanging outside Ray Scott's Dock on Amherst Avenue in Margate, and people walking in the door were ducking or bumping into it for about an hour.

Singer and crew used nothing but big minnows and racked up nine keepers.

The Stray Cat party/open boat that Mike O'Neill runs from Seaview Harbor Marina in Great Egg Inlet also had great flounder catches, plus black sea bass, jumbo triggerfish and a few blues on Great Egg Reef. He said most of the anglers on board had 2-3 keeper flounder.
