Triggerfish are suddenly a main target for anglers fishing T-Jetty and other Atlantic City rockpiles of Absecon Inlet.
Noel Feliano at One-Stop Bait and Tackle in Atlantic City said Thursday afternoon that triggerfish are bigger than tautog, which are now legal again (one fish at 15 inches). Feliciano said to use green crab, head-on shrimp, clam and scented squid for triggerfish and tog.
Feliciano said there are a lot of flounder in Absecon Inlet with many short throwbacks but a nice fat keeper here and there.
Kingfish are off and on, much like that fishery has been all summer.
Feliciano said he weighed a 119-pound bull shark caught at night from the shore around Harrah's Marina.
He said lots of bait fish are in Absecon Inlet and back bays, including spot, baby bunker, spearing and minnows.
Another reminder: Captain's meetings for both the Roy Kerstetter Open run by the Absecon Saltwater Sporstsmen, and Polly's Dock Flounder Tournament are 7 o'clock Friday night (July 27). The Roy Kerstetter Open - for flounder, weakfish and bluefish - is at Absecon American Legion Post 28, New Jersey Avenue and Mill Road. Polly's is at the dock, 112 West End Ave., Beach Haven.
