November starts out with a handful of fish entered Tuesday morning for the Long Beach Island Surf Fishing Classic, according to the contest website.

William Kayart of Montville picked a 20.44-pound striper with bunker at Beach Haven Crest. Robbie Vallone of Little Egg Harbor caught a 16.19 striper with bunker at Barnegat Light. Edwin Youse of Grandy, N.C., caught a 12.69 bass with bunker at Beach Haven Crest. Steve Warren of Beesleys Point beached a 12.56-pound bluefish with bunker at Surf City.

The High Tides Striper Tourmament coming up Saturday (Nov. 5) carries a decent first-place payout of $4,000 for the single-heaviest fish. It is a boat contest with an entry fee of $60 a person. The tournament is sponsored by Carpenter's Local 255 of Southern New Jersey and headquartered at Hinch Marina in Cape May. That's where the captain's meeting will be held 7 p.m. Friday.

The event benefits the Brendan Borek High Tides Memorial Fund. Second place earns $1,000 with other prizes down to $300 for fifth.
