Three local sailors will be inducted as members of the 2012 class in the Barnegat Bay Sailing Hall of Fame this year.

The induction ceremony will be Oct. 6 at Ocean County College in Toms River. Paul Coward of Brant Beach Yacht Club and Doug and Peg Galloway of Little Egg Harbor Yacht Club will be among those inducted.

Coward is a four-time national champion in the Mariner sailing class. After sailing, Coward went on to excel in race management and served as Principle Race Officer for several national and world championship events at Brant Beach Yacht Club. He also coached sailing at Southern Regional High School.

The Galloways, the first couple to be selected together, will be inducted posthumously. The duo won Eastern Championships in 1941, 1948 and 1952. They retired from racing in 1968 but went on to hold various leadership positions at Little Egg Harbor Yacht Club. The Galloways were equally well-known for cruising the East Coast on their 39-foot sloop called Adhara.

Others to be inducted are John Applegate (Lavallette Yacht Club), Roger Brown (Metedeconk River Yacht Club), Britton Chance Jr. (Mantoloking Yacht Club), John Harkrader (Bay Head and Manasquan River Yacht Clubs), Charles Horter (Island Heights Yacht Club) and Mark Schleckser (Shore Acres and Lavallette Yacht Clubs).

Tickets for the induction ceremony are $75. For more information, call Ocean County College’s Office of Student Life at 732-255-0348.
