SURF CITY — The new regional fishing administrator for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, who oversees fishing regulations from Maine through North Carolina for the federal government, will have an open meeting with fishermen today at the local firehouse.

The meeting is set to begin 4 p.m. and run to 6 p.m. at the Surf City Volunteer Fire Company at 713 N. Long Beach Blvd.

Northeast Regional Administrator John Bullard is on a “listening tour” along the coast, and his scheduled stops in New Jersey include Surf City Thursday and a tour of the Viking Village docks in Barnegat Light on Friday morning. Next week, Bullard will be stopping at fishing ports in Massachusetts and the following week he will be in Maine.

Fishermen will get a chance to ask questions and present their concerns to Bullard, a former mayor of New Bedford, Mass., one of the largest fishing ports in the country. NOAA Fisheries, which includes the National Marine Fisheries Service, regulates fisheries along the coast out to 200 miles offshore.
