Maddie Widmeier placed 11th overall at the U.S. Junior Women’s Singlehanded Championship on Lake Michigan hosted by the Chicago Yacht Club on Wednesday.

Widmeier, a 16-year-old Pipersville, Pa., resident and summer resident of the Brant Beach section of Long Beach Township, is the sailing partner of Allyson Donahue, a rising senior at Holy Spirit. The pair won the U.S. Junior Women’s Doublehanded Championship on Lake Minnetonka, Minn., last month.

The Singlehanded Cham-pionship, won by Seattle Yacht Club’s Hanne Weaver, began Friday and concluded Wednesday. Forty-eight fe-male youth sailors competed for the prestigious Leiter Cup. Widmeier, a member of the Brant Beach Yacht Club, placed in the top-10 in six of the 10 races with her best finish coming in the fourth race (5). Widmeier totaled 91 points.
