Three New Jersey powerboat racers won their classes in windy conditions at day one of the Daniel J. Murphy Jr. Memorial Regatta on Saturday at Lake Lenape in Mays Landing.

Matt Hennings of Cinnaminson won the 1.5-litre class, while Dale Hernandez of Mickleton took the pro stocks and Thomas Petterson of Blairstown won the Jersey Speed Skiffs class.

Warren Brown of Galloway Township finished fifth in the Jersey Speed Skiffs class. Tabatha Carr of Egg Harbor Township had engine trouble and didn’t finish in the 1.5-litre stock class.

The National Modified class didn’t run because EHT’s George Conover was the only racer in the class.

Five powerboat classes ran and 32 racing teams were there.

The second and final day of the event runs from noon to 5 p.m. today on the lake.
