The Philadelphia Flyers signed new backup goaltender Steve Mason to a one-year, $1.5 million extension Monday.

Mason was acquired last week from Columbus for Michael Leighton and a draft pick.

The 24-year-old won the Calder Trophy as the NHL's top rookie in 2009.
