Philadelphia Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren was hospitalized after a bicycle accident in Avalon on Monday.

Avalon police said only that Holmgren, 55, fell off his bicycle.

He was taken to Cooper University Hospital in Camden. Cooper nursing supervisor Carrie Demyn said late Monday night that Holmgren was in stable condition but could provide no further information.

Holmgren, who owns a home in Avalon, has been the team's general manager since 2006. He also played for the Flyers from 1976-83 and coached the team from 1988-92.

He and his wife, Doreen, reside in Somerdale, according to the team's website. He has four children.

Several Flyers players posted on Twitter about Holmgren on Monday night.

"Heard about Holmer earlier today, was waiting to comment on it until the media found out...hope he's doing alright...scary, scary situation," defenseman Matt Carle posted. "I ride a road bike during the summer and one of my biggest fears is having a bad wreck...make sure you're wearing a helmet #looksdontmatter."

Winger James van Riemsdyk, a Middletown native, posted: "Just heard about what happened to holmer, very scary stuff, good thing he was wearing a helmet. hope hes alright and gets better soon."

Goalie Ilya Bryzgalov wrote: "I hope Paul is all right and gets well soon."
