The 2012 Atlantic City World Amateur Open was canceled Monday.

The event had been scheduled for Oct. 1-4.

The Greater Atlantic City Golf Association (GACGA) is growing from seven to 16 golf courses, and the Board of Directors decided to wait until 2013 to give all new GACGA members a chance to participate in the Open. A date has yet to be determined.

Golfers will compete as individuals or two-player teams in 54-hole stroke play competition or an 18-hole championship playoff.
