Somers Point golfer Harry Scott, 78, is trying to play 50 courses in 50 states in 50 days. The Press has been checking in with Scott for daily updates on his ongoing odyssey.
City: South Lake Tahoe, Calif.
Course played: Lake Tahoe Golf Course (6,327 yards, par 71)
About the course: Scott said it wasn’t the best course on his trip, but being in a resort area, it was the most expensive. He expected a little more from the course and said the greens were not to his standard and the fairways were average. Water came into play on half of the holes. One of his best-played holes was a bogey on a par-4, 436-yard hole.
Playing partner: Scott played alone, except for on a few holes in the back nine.
Place he started and finished for the day: Scott left Carson City, Nev., to make the 45-minute drive to South Lake Tahoe for a 6:30 a.m. tee time. He expected to finish the 644-mile drive to Troutdale, Ore., by 11:30 p.m. EDT Friday.
Harry’s highlights: Scott felt extra energetic Friday, possibly from the extra rest after staying two nights in the same city, so he played from a farther back tee box. He finished with a 90 and had pars on the 11th and 17th holes. Scott noted that his round began with a frost warning, but temperatures soared to 102 degrees as he drove along Highway 5.
What’s next: Scott tees off at 5:30 a.m. today at Eastmoreland Golf Course in Portland. After his round, he’ll drive 179 miles to Bremerton, Wash.
