Last week was a good one for Ryan McCormick and his dad, Mark, of Middletown.

This week could be even better for the elder McCormick, the pro at Suburban Golf Club in Union.

Mark McCormick qualified June 4 at Canoe Brook Country Club in Summitt for the U.S. Open, which begins today at the Olympic Club in San Francisco. McCormick shot a 4-under-par 138 to grab one of four qualifying spots.

McCormick, 49, tees off today at 12:27 p.m. on the Lake Course. Ryan McCormick will be there to watch him play. The St. John’s University junior, 20, also had a big week. He shot a 12-under 276 to win the 111th New Jersey State Golf Association Amateur Championship at Baltusrol Golf Club in Springfield on June 14.

Ryan McCormick earned the E.M. Wild Championship Trophy.
