Alex Hicks of Stone Harbor Golf Club made 10 birdies in the 36-hole final of the New Jersey State Golf Association Amateur Championship at Baltusrol Golf Club in Springfield on Thursday to finish tied for seventh.
Hicks, a College of William and Mary golfer from Cape May Court House, shot a 76-72-73-71—292 to tie former four-time Hidden Creek Golf Club champion Mike Meisenzahl (73-73-74-72—292) of Little Mill Country Club.
Hicks, a three-time Press Golfer of the Year from Middle Township High School, also had six bogeys and two double bogeys in the final two rounds on the Upper and Lower courses.
Meisenzahl, a summer resident of Sea Isle City who graduated from James Madison University in 2011, had eight birdies and 10 bogeys in the final two rounds.
Stone Harbor Golf Club’s Anthony Ventura (75-76-73-75—299 tied for 19th place. He had eight birdies, eight bogeys and two double bogeys on Thursday.
Stone Harbor’s Geoffrey Cooper finished 45th (76-75-81-82—314). He had one birdie, 11 bogeys, three double bogeys and a triple bogey.
Ryan McCormick of Suburban Golf Club in Union fired a final-round 2-under-par 70 to win the Amateur title with a 68-71-67-70—276.
He earned the Edwin M. Wild Championship Trophy.
