Somers Point golfer Harry Scott, 78, is trying to play 50 courses in 50 states in 50 days. The Press has been checking in with Scott for daily updates on his ongoing odyssey.

Day: 44

City: Twin Falls, Idaho

Course played: Canyon Springs Golf Course (6,028 yards, par 72)

About the course: The course was set deep down in a canyon surrounded by huge, high walls with an occaisional waterfall. Scott said he finally played at a golf course worthy of its name and it actually felt surreal playing on the course surface. The course was in excellent condition and was loaded with groundhogs. Scott saw at least 10 groundhogs on every hole.

Whom he played with: Scott played alone in about three hours.

Harry’s highlights: There weren’t too many notable holes during his round at Canyon Springs except just missing par by 3 inches on the No. 1 handicap 401-yard, par-4 seventh hole. Immediately after on the eighth, Scott had a bogey on the 181-yard par 3.

Place he started and finished the day: He stayed Tuesday night in Jerome, Idaho, a town close by Twin Falls. After his round, he drove 480 miles to Carson City, Nev. Scott drove nine hours through the dry deserts of Idaho and Nevada. He planned to spend two nights there while playing at Silver Oaks Golf Course today.

What’s next: Scott will head to South Lake Tahoe on Friday morning and play at Lake Tahoe Country Club in California.
