Boys soccer roundup: Middle Township avoids upset with Manchester

David Hicks scored the game-winner 19 minutes into the second half as the third-seeded Middle Township High School boys soccer team edged 14th-seeded Manchester Township 1-0 in a South Jersey Group II first-round playoff game Tuesday.

Alijah Broadnax had the assist. Goalies Steven Hand and Tanner Kerr combined for the Panthers’ 11th shutout of the season.

Middle, No. 11 in The Press Elite 11, will play 11th-seeded Atlantic County Institute of Technology in the quarterfinals on a date to be determined.

Nate Henry scored two goals and assisted on the third as Atlantic County Institute of Technology won its first playoff game in the school’s first varsity season. Henry’s brother Andrew also scored for the Redhawks. ACIT goalie Chris Vargas had nine saves and an asisst on Nate Henry’s first goal.

The Redhawks advance to play at No. 2 seed Middle Township in the quarterfinals at a date to be determined.
