Cape May Tech senior girls eager to get back to playoffs

Cape May Tech senior captain Alexis Olson, left, drives to the basket against teammate sophomore Aras Walker during practice.

The Cape May Tech High School girls basketball will rely on a trio of seniors as it plans to have another young team.

Coach Ginny Roma, entering into her eighth season at Cape May Tech, will look to Alexis Olson, Jessica McAnulty and Cezanne Czworkowski for leadership. Despite the young supporting cast, Roma is hoping a strong run will get her team into the post-season hunt.

Olson, McAnulty and Czworkowski were freshmen the last time Tech was in the state tournament.

"The girls are super-excited for this year," Roma said. "They have a really good feeling. Our goal is to go back to the state tournament - we went to the state tournament three years ago when these seniors were freshmen so we're eager to get back.

"Every practice is focused around that."

The one thing last season lacked for the Hawks was solid senior leadership, Roma said. With the team a year older, she's confident they will gel a lot better this season with the youth they have.

"It's one of the stronger group of seniors that I've had in the eight years of doing this," Roma said. "Knowing how they are and their interaction with the team, and what they expect. They hold the team to a standard and they want everyone to play at a certain level and the team responds to the three of them tremendously."
