Two Rowan University athletes earned Eastern College Athletic Conference honors Thursday.

Senior goalie Michael Fanz-Huster (Hammonton) was named the men’s soccer Division III Metro Defensive Player of the Week. In two games, Fanz-Huster posted a 0.44 goals-against average.

Also honored was senior linebacker Patrick Ruley (Atlantic City), who was named the ECAC Division III Southeast Defensive Player of the Week for his 15-tackle performance in a 17-3 win over Brockport College on Sept. 29.


Cheyney University junior Brandon Collins (Holy Spirit) had four solo tackles and three assists in a 56-7 loss to Kutztown University on Saturday. ... Wagner running back Dominique Williams (Bridgeton) was named the Northeast Conference Offensive Player of the Week for his 20-carry, 122-yard performance in a 12-3 win over Sacred Heart. ... Safety Joe Sarnese (Holy Spirit) led Villanova in tackles with 13 in a 28-17 loss to Richmond. Sarnese also had a pass breakup. Defensive tackle Antoine Lewis (Mainland Regional) had five tackles. Defensive back Craig James (Oakcrest) had three tackles. Wide receiver Norman White (St. Joseph) caught four passes for 25 yards. ... Running back Darnell Laws (St. Augustine Prep) had 54 yards rushing and a touchdown on 14 carries in William & Mary’s 34-28 win over Penn. ... Wide receiver Scott Miller (Egg Harbor Township) returned two punts for 36 yards and had a 7-yard catch in Harvard’s 45-13 win over Cornell. ... Wide receiver Craig Dennis (Atlantic City) had four catches for 22 yards in Saint Anselm’s 38-28 loss to Bentley. ... Defensive end Marcus Witherspoon (Holy Spirit) had six tackles, including a sack and a forced fumble in Fayetteville State’s 45-28 loss to Shaw.

Linebacker Sean Clark (St. Joseph) had six tackles in The College of New Jersey’s 42-28 loss to Cortland State. DL Mike Barber (Absegami) had four tackles and a pass breakup. DL Patrick Kimball (Ocean City) had four tackles.

Wide receiver Jae DeShields (Bridgeton) caught three passes for 39 yards in Stevenson’s 50-26 loss to Widener. Tight end Travis Douglas (Vineland) had two catches for 28 yards. Defensive tackle Dondre’ Brown (Mainland Regional) had four tackles, including two for a loss. Kevin Bunton (Bridgeton) had two tackles. For Widener, wide receiver Matthew Locotos (Ocean City) had a 16-yard touchdown catch. ... Defensive back Andre Snead (Atlantic City) had five tackles and an interception that he returned for 10 yards in William Paterson’s 35-14 loss to Brockport. ... Defensive end Mike Weatherby (Mainland) had three tackles in Trinity’s 53-14 win over Hamilton.

Field hockey

Montclair State University’s Frances Schaefer (Holy Spirit) was named New Jersey Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week for scoring four goals (eight points) in two victories. She ranks third in the NJAC in points (23) and goals (10). ... McDaniel College’s Katie Corson (Ocean City) scored in Wednesday’s 3-1 win over Dickinson in a Centennial Conference game. … TCNJ freshman Roisin Dougherty (Ocean City) posted one save in her ninth win of the season, a 5-1 victory over Cabrini College on Thursday.

Men’s soccer

Mitch Grotti (Millville) scored a goal and had an assist in Rutgers-Camden University’s 3-0 win over Cairn University on Oct. 1. ...Villanova’s John Fogarty (Ocean City) was named the Big East Conference Goalkeeper of the Week and Defender of the Week by Philadelphia Soccer Six. The senior posted back-to-back shutouts and made eight saves in two road games last week.

Women’s soccer

Chestnut Hill College junior Carly DiGiovanni (Ocean City) scored a goal in a 2-0 win over Dowling College last Tuesday and leads the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference in points (25) and is tied for the lead in goals (11). … Sara Conover (Egg Harbor Township) scored two goals and had an assist in Penn State Berks’ wins over Morrisville State and Cazenovia College this week and leads the North Eastern Athletic Conference in goals (14) and points (32). … Georgian Court University’s Megan Sherman (Oakcrest) scored her first collegiate goal in Sunday’s 8-0 win over Lincoln University.

Cross country

University of West Florida sophomore Brandon Skeie (Southern Regional) set a personal best in the 8,000-meter run (27 minutes, 34.10 seconds) and finished 54th overall at the Florida State Cross Country Invitational on Friday.


Stevens Institute of Technology senior Scott Reardon (Mainland) shot a 78 in the first round and totaled 164 as the Ducks placed fourth at the Mason-Dixon Collegiate Classic hosted by McDaniel College over the weekend. … New Jersey City University sophomore Brian Ferrante (Cape May Tech) shot an 84 to tie for second as the Gothic Knights placed second at the NYU-Poly Tri-Match at Somers Pointe Country Club in Somers, N.Y., on Friday.

Women’s tennis

Rutgers-Camden freshman Amanda Hickman (Millville) earned New Jersey Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week honors for the third time this season and the second consecutive week.

She went 4-1 at first singles over the week and was third overall in the top singles flight at the Goucher Invitational.

Lynchburg College freshman Melissa Drinkard (Ocean City) finished the season with a 7-7 record at second singles and 5-7 at first doubles with partner Becky Stipa, and also won the second singles division at the Sweet Briar Invitational on Sept. 15.
