The Egg Harbor Township girls basketball team lost a lot of senior experience to graduation.

Seven seniors graduated, with five of them being key players, coach Karen Shutz said. There will be a lot of freshmen and sophomores getting playing time this season, and few of them have a lot of varsity experience.

"We lost a lot of experience but we have a lot of young kids that are pretty athletic," Shutz said. "I'm looking forward to it, it's just more so there's that element of inexperience."

At least three sophomores and two freshmen will be getting a lot of playing time this season, Shutz said.

"We have a lot of athleticism and speed coming in and we hope to be competitive in the conference," Shutz said. "As the season goes on with the experience they get, we hope they get stronger and stronger."

Carley Pappas, a senior, is one of the few returning players with varsity experience.

"She's a strong and aggressive defender who sets the tone for our team on the court," Shutz said. "We are looking for her leadership to help the younger players."

Other key seniors on the team are Emily Baker and Bora Gjyleri. Meaghan Mahana is the lone key junior for Shutz. A trio of new guards include sophomore Alexis Knox and freshmen Ariyana Wilkes and Katie Reed.
