Field hockey, boys soccer, girls volleyball: Top-seeded Ocean City field hockey team blanks Timber Creek

The Ocean City High School field hockey team, ranked third in The Press Elite 11, beat visiting Timber Creek 6-0 Saturday in a South Jersey Group III quarterfinal game.

Courtney Allen and Leah Davies each scored to give O.C. a 2-0 halftime lead, and Jordan Allegretto added two goals in the second half.

Kelly Hanna had two assists. Katie Johnson had two saves for the sbutout.

Ocean City, the top seed, hosts a semifinal game on Friday against the winner of today’s 10 a.m. quarterfinal game between No. 5 Hammonton and host Mainland Regional, the fourth seed.

Timber Creek 0 0—0

Ocean City 2 4—6

Goalies—Zacamy (10) TC. Johnson (2) OC.

South Jersey Group II

(5) Buena Regional 7, (12) Cedar Creek 0

Casey Sturts scored four goals for Buena, which earned its 13th win to tie a school record.

Carly Linus added two goals and an assist. Elena Sneathen recorded the shutout with three saves.

Buena, the fifth seed, travels to fourth-seeded Woodstown on Thursday for a quarterfinal game.

Holly Walker and Rachel Maltais scored second-half goals for visiting Barnegat.

The Bengals’ Jen Zaun made 12 saves. Jill Vandermark scored to put Lower up 1-0 in the first half.

Barnegat, the ninth seed, travels to top-seeded Collingswood on Thursday for a South Jersey Group II quarterfinal game.

Maddie Anagnou scored all three goals for host Middle, and Danielle White assisted on the first two.

Annie Mallett recorded her ninth shutout of the season with 10 saves. Ali Yip had 11 saves for Sterling.

Middle, the seventh seed in South Jersey Group II, plays at second-seeded West Deptford on Thursday in a quarterfinal game.

West Deptford scored the only goal 10 minutes into the game.

The ninth-seeded Eagles travel to top-seeded Haddonfield on Thursday for a quarterfinal game.

Cape-Atlantic League

No. 8 Absegami 4, Ocean City 0

Eder Solano scored the first three goals for visiting Absegami, which is No. 8 in The Press Elite 11. Sean Milligan had three assists.

It was the final Cape-Atlantic League American Conference game of the season for Absegami, the conference champion for the first time since 1977, according to coach Bill Rose.

Matt McCormick had six saves for his 10th shutout of the season, a school record.

The old mark was nine by Jay Casiano in 1981.

Evan McCardell made eight stops for O.C.

Girls volleyball

Shore Conference

Southern Regional 2, Marlboro 1

The Southern Regional High School girls volleyball team won semifinal and final matches to capture the Shore Conference Championship on Saturday at home.

The Rams (22-9) topped Marlboro 2-1 in the championship match with scores of 20-25, 25-22 and 25-16. Southern beat Red Bank Catholic 2-0 in the semifinal with scores of 25-14 and 25-19.

Southern’s Emily Miglin led with 10 kills and three aces in the final, while teammate Kelsie Blue added four kills and eight blocks, and Carly Dellavalle had 25 assists.

In the semifinal, Miglin had 11 kills, and Cece Hodgson and Brittany Fortner added 8 and 4 kills, respectively.
