The Southern Regional High School field hockey team gave coach Kathy Snyder her 300th career victory, beating visiting Washington Township 1-0 in double-overtime Tuesday in a South Jersey Group IV quarterfinal.
Arielle Galgano scored an unassisted goal at 1 minute 15 seconds into the second overtime.
Southern (19-1), the No. 2 seed and eighth in The Press Elite 11, hosts third-seeded Shawnee at 2 p.m. Monday in a semifinal. Shawnee is seventh in The Elite 11. Washington Township was the seventh seed.
“I didn’t know anything about (300 wins) until, Paula Mansuy, our statistician and a teacher at our school, told me about it early in the year,” said Snyder, the coach since 1984. “It’s something that happens when you’ve been there a long time and you have kids that work hard.
“I love what I do, I love coaching. It’s (the milestone) not something I think much about. It (the ceremony) was pretty nice. They gave me a plaque and some balloons. They shied away from a cake, because if we lost the game, we’d have this cake (without getting the win).”
