Four local high school football teams — Lacey Township, St. Joseph, Holy Spirit and St. Augustine Prep — have qualified for the playoffs.

Several more teams are in contention and face key games this weekend and next.

The top eight teams with the most power points in each group after the games of Nov. 2-3 will qualify for the postseason.

Teams earn power points with each victory. They also receive points based on their opponents’ wins and enrollment.

The playoffs begin Nov. 9-10. The championship games are the first weekend of December. The South Jersey title games will be played at Rowan University.

Here is a look at the contenders in each group:

Group V

Contenders: Williamstown (7-0); Eastern (5-2); Southern (4-2); Toms River North (4-2); Absegami (4-2); Washington Township (5-1); Atlantic City (4-2); Cherry Hill East (3-4); Millville (3-3); Egg Harbor Township (3-3).

Williamstown and Eastern have clinched playoff berths.

With two teams in, there are eight teams competing for six spots. The key number in this group appears to be five.

Five wins should earn teams enough power points to make the field.

Group IV

Contenders: Lacey Township (7-0); Timber Creek (5-2); Clearview (5-2); Moorestown (4-3); Shawnee (4-3); Hammonton (4-2); Kingsway Regional (4-2); Seneca (3-3); Cherry Hill West (3-3); Toms River South (3-3).

Lacey Township has clinched a spot. Hammonton controls its own fate with games against Absegami (4-2) and Millville (3-3). If the

Blue Devils win one of those two contests, they probably will earn enough power points to make the playoffs.

Group III

Contenders: Delsea Re-gional (6-1); Burlington Township (5-1); Pt. Pleasant Borough (5-2); Bridgeton (4-3); Highland Regional (4-3); Barnegat (3-3); Northern Burlington (3-3); Cumberland (3-4); Deptford (3-3).

This group appears to be coming down to nine teams for eight spots. Bridgeton and Barnegat control own destinies as five wins should earn enough power points to qualify.

Group II

Contenders: West Deptford (6-0); Cedar Creek (6-0); Woodstown (4-2); Haddon Heights (4-2); Buena Regional (3-4); Cinnaminson (4-2); Sterling (3-3); Haddonfield (4-2); Middle Township (3-3); Willingboro (3-3).

West Deptford has clinched a berth. Cedar Creek has not clinched yet but is in excellent shape to make the playoffs. Middle Township should qualify with wins in games against Bridgeton this Friday and Buena Regional on Nov. 2.

Group I

Contenders: Glassboro (5-1); Penns Grove (6-0); Woodbury (5-1); Paulsboro (4-2); Gloucester (5-1); Pennsville(4-2); Wildwood (4-3); Audubon (4-2); Haddon Township (3-3); Schalick (2-4).

Wildwood is seeking its first playoff berth in school history. The Warriors must beat Newark Academy (1-5) on Friday to improve their chances.

Even then, Wildwood might need the teams immediately behind them — Audubon, Haddon Township and Schalick — to lose a few games in the next two weeks.

Non-Public

St. Joseph (6-0) has a clinched a playoff berth and also should grab the top seed in Non-Public I with a win over St. Augustine Prep on Saturday.

Holy Spirit (3-3) has clinched a spot in the Non-Public II playoffs. St. Augustine Prep (6-0) has qualified in Non-Public IV.

It is easier to qualify in the non-public groups because they’re only nine teams in each section as opposed to 15 teams in the public school enrollment groups.
