St. Joseph High School’s Shannon Metzler scored four goals as the Wildcats girls soccer team defeated visiting Rutgers Prep 5-1 in a South Jersey Non-Public B first-round game on Saturday.

Metzler scored the first three goals of the game as St. Joseph took a 4-0 halftime lead.

St. Joseph, the No. 6 seed, plays at third-seeded St. Rose on Tuesday in Belmar in a quarterfinal at a time to be determined. Rutgers Prep was the 11th seed.

Kelly Gibison also scored for the Wildcats, and Shannon Nilson had two assists. St. Joe goalie Taylor Jacoby had two saves. Kendra Barat made 14 stops for Rutgers Prep.

Girls volleyball

Ridge beat visiting Absegami in Watchung Hills. The scores were 25-8 and 25-13.

For 25th-seeded Absegami, senior outside hitter Erika Hernandez had three kills and four digs, while senior libero Christine Lam added five digs, and sophomore setter Dionise Ko had eights assists.

Marissa Casella lead the Villagers (13-7) with three kills, two aces. Sarah Duffy had three kills and Kelsey Cugini added two kills, one ace and one dig.
