Our Lady of Mercy Academy, seeded 15th, defeated No. 18 Hawthorne Christian Academy 2-1 on Wednesday in a first-round state Non-Public girls volleyball match in Newfield.
The scores were 19-25, 25-23, 25-19.
Nicole Sheridan led OLMA with three aces, five kills and two digs.
Kelsey Cugini had two aces and six kills.
The Villagers (13-6-0) face the winner of No. 31 Mother Seton and No. 2 DePaul on Friday.
