Local minor-leaguers: Darren Ford gets hit, RBI for Tacoma

CF Darren Ford (Vineland) of the Tacoma Rainiers (Mariners) went 1-for-4 with a run scored, an RBI and a strikeout Thursday in a 9-1 win against the Reno Aces in a triple-A Pacific Coast League game. Ford was hitting .333 after the four at-bats.

LHP Scott DeCecco (Middle Township) of the Class A Everett AquaSox (Mariners) pitched 1.2 innings in a 10-inning, 7-6 win over the Spokane Indians in a Northwest League game. DeCecco allowed two hits and one run. He also had one walk. DeCecco had appeared in two of Everett’s first seven games.

RF Alexi Colon (St. Augustine Prep) did not play as the Eugene Emeralds (Padres) lost 5-4 to the Boise Hawks (Cubs) in a short-season Class A Northwest League game.

OF Matt Szczur (Lower Cape May Regional) did not play as the Daytona Cubs beat the Clearwater Threshers 3-0. Szczur has not played since May 31 due to a knee injury, but he was activated from the disabled list Monday. Szczur is hitting .267 with 43 runs scored and 19 stolen bases in 48 games in the Advanced Class A Florida State League.
