Outfielder Matt Szczur (Lower Cape May Regional) of the Daytone Cubs will miss the Advanced Class A Florida State League All-Star game Saturday in Port Charlotte because of a strained knee that has him on the disabled list, a team spokesman told the Daytona News-Journal on Tuesday. Szczur could be back in the lineup as early as Monday, when the Cubs open a three-game home series against the Tampa Yankees, the newspaper said.
Scott DeCecco (Middle Township) agreed to a minor-league contract with the Seattle Mariners, the team announced Wednesday. The left-handed pitcher, a 21st-round pick in last week’s draft, will play for short-season Class A Everett (Wash.) AquaSox, whose season starts Friday.
Darren Ford (Vineland) remained on the disabled list (broken finger) for the Tacoma Rainiers (Mariners) in the triple-A Pacific Coast League. Ford, an outfielder, has yet to play this season.
