Mike Trout of Millville is a rookie outfielder with the Los Angeles Angels. Trout, 20, is a 2009 Millville High School graduate who was The Press Player of the Year that season.

Friday: Trout went 0-for with two strikeouts in a home game against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Season statistics: (Through Friday’s game)

G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI 43 174 35 58 10 3 6 26

SB CS BB SO .AVG OBP SLG OPS

16 3 17 39 .333 .393 .529 .922

Notes: Trout has the most runs scored (35) in the majors since May 1. He also has the most times on base in the American League since April 28 with 76.

Quotes: “I don’t want to have any distractions for him,” Angels manager Mike Scioscia said when asked about Trout's write-in chances for the All-Star Game in Kansas City next month in quotes on the team’s website. “Even if he doesn’t get there this year, it’s only a matter of time that he’s going to be an All-Star. He was further advanced than any 19-year-old I’ve seen last year, and he’s shown that at 20. He has an all-around game, and even though experience will be a great teacher, he’s way ahead of the curve at 20 years old.” Trout: “It’s an honor if they feel like voting for me. Naturally, it would be a thrill to be in the All-Star game.”
