Student-athletes weren't the only people looking for a new school when Sacred Heart closed.
Kevin Nash, who coached there the last six seasons - head coach for the last three - took over the Bulldogs' boys basketball team this season. He has been a teacher at Bridgeton for the last 11 years and has high expectations for this season with four returning starters.
One of those returning is 6-foot-5 junior forward Nazir Williams. Nash said that Williams has a knack for converting around the basket and his leaping abilities make him a threat down low.
"He's a grown man," Nash said. "He runs like a dear and jumps right out of the gym. Once he realizes he needs to play hard all of the time I think he's going to be a dangerous, dangerous kid in the (Cape-Atlantic League)."
Ty'Trel Stubbs is another junior Nash talked about. A 5-11 guard, Stubbs will be the Bulldogs' biggest scoring threat, and "has range out to the parking lot," Nash said.
Marquis Wilson and Stefon Bowman are two other junior guards who will see significant playing time. Nash said their leadership drives the rest of the team.
Nash said the common goal this season is to make the CAL playoffs.
"I think that goal is well within our reach," Nash said. "As long as we play hard and remained focused in practice, I think at the end of the season we will be right there."
