The Pleasantville High School girls basketball team has improved on its win total in each of the past three seasons, and coach Alex Harley wants to continue the trend.

"We're still a little inexperienced," Harley said. "We're looking to improve on what we did last year. Very optimistic."

The Greyhounds had a winless season in 2008-09 but have increased their win total by one win each season from then.

This season, they bring back three talented guards, led by 5-foot-10 junior Mya Alston, a three-year starter who played center last season.

"She played against all the top centers in our conference," Harley said. "But it compromised her scoring. So this year I want to bring her out on the top more so she can concentrate on beating guards."

Alston's twin sister, Mia, will play point guard. They are joined in the backcourt by the team's only senior, Drucilla Oglesby.

"They're pretty good all-around athletes," Harley said. "They're great defenders. They can score."

Pleasantville also returns Barbara Gedeon, a 6-foot center who starred for the Greyhounds' volleyball team this fall.

"She led the Cape-Atlantic League in kills in volleyball, and hopefully she's going to lead the league in blocks," Harley said.

Harley is entering his third season at the helm, and he said the team has made big strides since he took over.

"We want to make a big jump," he said. "These girls have been together almost since eighth grade. … They know nothing successful was built overnight."
