The Southern Regional High School field hockey team gave coach Kathy Snyder her 300th career victory, beating visiting Washington Township 1-0 in double-overtime Tuesday in a South Jersey Group IV quarterfinal.
Arielle Galgano scored an unassisted goal at 1 minute 15 seconds into the second overtime.
Southern (19-1), the No. 2 seed and ninth in The Press Elite 11, hosts third-seeded Shawnee at 2 p.m. Monday in a semifinal. Third-seeded Shawnee is seventh in The Elite 11. Washington Township was the seventh seed.
"I didn't know anything about (300 wins) until, Paula Mansuy, our statistician and a teacher at our school, told me about it early in the year," said Snyder, the coach since 1984. "It's something that happens when you've been there a long time and you have kids that work hard.
"I love what I do, I love coaching. It's (the milestone) not something I think much about. It (the ceremony) was pretty nice. They gave me a plaque and some balloons. They shied away from a cake, because if we lost the game, we'd have this cake (without getting the win)."
Galgano took the ball up the left side and beat Washington Township goalie Amanda Hazel to the right corner of the net. Rams goalie Rianna Martarano made two saves for the shutout.
