Pinelands Regional 27,

Marlboro 20

Evan Burton scored three touchdowns, including the winning score, for the Pinelands Regional High School football team in a 27-20 win over Marlboro on Saturday in a Shore Conference game.

Burton gave Pinelands a 7-0 lead in the first quarter with his 70-yard touchdown run. Midway through the second quarter, Burton scored his second touchdown of the game, a 20-yard run, to put the Wildcats up 14-0.

Pinelands' defense played well in the first half, stopping Marlboro three times deep in their own zone. The final time came at the end of the half, stopping Marlboro inside the 10-yard line.

Marlboro cut the lead to 14-7 midway through the third on Jonny Helff's 30-yard touchdown run. Helff tied it up on the next possession following a Pinelands fumble.

Helff scored his third touchdown of the game with 5 minutes, 47 seconds left in the fourth, but the Mustangs missed the extra point.

Pinelands promptly answered with Brennan Richardson's touchdown run following a 60-yard reception from quarterback Andrew Bartlett to tight end Joey Parkinson. Malrboro blocked the extra point, keeping the score tied 20-20 with 2:39 left.

Pinelands got the ball back with 42 seconds remaining. On the next play, Burton scored from 63 yards out to give the Wildcats the 27-20 lead and win.
