The Egg Harbor Township High School girls tennis team beat visiting Ocean City, which is ranked No. 11 in The Press Elite 11, 4-1 Monday to put the Eagles in the lead for the first time since 1999 for the Cape-Atlantic League American Conference title.

The Eagles' Sophie Fernandez beat Lauren Loggi 7-6 (7-2), 6-1 in third singles. Sophomore Katie Garthaus won first singles 6-3, 6-2 and second-doubles partners Zahara James and Caroline Tesone won their match 6-0, 6-2.

Leah Kornberg defeated Vida Torres 6-3, 6-2 at second singles for Ocean City's point.

The Eagles have two conference matches left, with Absegami and Vineland.
