The Holy Spirit High School baseball team beat Oakcrest 2-1 in eight innings on Thursday in a Cape-Atlantic League game.

Holy Spirit's Mike DiIanni pitched all eight innings for the Spartans, allowing a run on five hits and three walks, striking out 11. His second strikeout of the afternoon was his 100th in his career, and he finished the day with 109.

Both teams scored a run in the first inning. Ryan Johnson gave Oakcrest a 1-0 lead in the top of the first and Robert Boselli's solo homer in the bottom tied it up for Spirit.

The game stayed tied until the bottom of the eighth. With the bases loaded and one out, Chris Lefferts scored on Jimmy Dixon's infield single to win the game.

Lefferts and Dixon each had two hits for the Spartans.

Oakcrest's Kenny Merlock doubled. Starting pitcher Cameron Lease pitched seven innings, allowing a run on six hits, striking out four in the no-decision.
