No. 11 Ocean City 5,

Canisius (N.Y.) 4

From Press staff reports

Ocean City High School baseball coach Craig Mensinger got the 300th win of his career on Thursday in a 5-4 victory over Canisius (N.Y.) in St. Petersburg, Fla.

Mensinger, 58, of Upper Township, has been with the Ocean City baseball program for 35 years, 29 of them as the varsity baseball coach. With the win, his overall record is now 300-313.

"I knew it should happen some time early in our season, but when I was down here I really didn't even realize it until one of my assistant coaches shook my hand at the end of the game and said, 'Congratulations Coach,' " Mensinger said in a phone interview. "It didn't even sink in. It was pretty special, especially since it took me by surprise."

Mensinger gave most of the credit for reaching the milestone to past and current players and coaches.

"It'a all about all the good players that I've had over the years, as well as the outstanding coaches," he said. "It's not an individual sport. It's about the team."

Dom Fiorentino had the game-winning single, scoring pinch runner Martin Shaw in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Zach Altieri was 2-for-3 with two RBIs for the Red Raiders, the No. 11 team in The Press Elite 11.

Starter Joe Clifford pitched a complete game, striking out nine and only walking two.
