The Tri-Cape softball team won Wednesday morning at the Carpenter Cup Classic in Philadelphia but was eliminated a few hours later.

After winning two of its three games of the double-elimination tournament Tuesday, Tri-Cape defeated Delaware County 2-0 on Wednesday morning. But the team of rising high school juniors and seniors from the Tri-County Conference and Cape-Atlantic League lost 11-1 to Chester County in the afternoon.

Buena Regional's Ashley Surran singled in what proved to be the winning run in the third inning of the win over Delaware County.

Sacred Heart's Danielle Lugo also had one of Tri-Cape's five hits in the first game. Wildwood Catholic's Jackie DeLong pitched three shutout innings in relief, allowing just one hit while striking out three and walking none.

In the second game, Buena Regional's Carly Linus went 2-for-3 with an RBI triple in the sixth inning for Tri-Cape's only run. Egg Harbor Township's Selena Santiago went 2-for-2. DeLong gave up five runs in four innings, but only two were earned.
