Cassidy Gallagher singled in Samantha Grassi with the winning run as Middle Township High School defeated St. Joseph 2-1 in eight innings in a Cape-Atlantic League softball game Thursday.

Gallagher’s hit came with the bases loaded.

Middle took a 1-0 lead in the second inning with the help of Grassi, who was 2 for 3 and scored twice in the game. St. Joseph answered in the sixth with Gianna Morganti scoring the tying run on Gabby Fanelli’s sacrifice fly.

Maggie Wilkinson was 4 for 4 with three doubles to lead the Spartans.

Kamryn Englert went 2 for 3, including a double. Emily Magee had two doubles and was the winning pitcher. She struck out eight.

Oakcrest’s Nikki Emper and Sarah Brosman were both 3 for 4. Aryel Arroyo struck out three.

Pineland’s Jessie Rising pitched a complete game, striking out 12 and allowing just two hits.

Rising was also 3 for 4 and drove in a run for the Wildcats, who are ranked No. 4 in The Press Elite 11. Nicole Burke homered, and Nicole Ramirez had an RBI single.
