The St. Joseph High School girls basketball team returns one senior.

But that doesn't mean the Wildcats will be inexperienced this season. Junior Gabby Dudo has started at point guard since she was a freshman.

"We look for her to be a floor leader and get us into our offense," Wildcats coach Dan McGettigan said. "She has some quickness. She's a true point guard and that's a nice bonus to have."

St. Joe graduated five seniors from last season's 21-6 team. Cori Weiss, a 5-foot-3 guard, is the only returning senior.

Sammi Wetzel, a 6-4 center, saw plenty of time as a sophomore last season. Dana Direnzo, a 6-0 sophomore, also started some games last year.

Nearly all of St. Joe's players play other sports. While basketball may not be their primary sport, the Wildcats are talented athletes.

McGettigan called Shannon Metzler, a 5-11 junior, one of the best athletes he's coached in his 16 seasons.

"She has really come a long way, working on her ball handling and her shooting," McGettigan said.

McGettigan said the team graduated much of its toughness.

"The kids we have now are so nice," he said. "We usually struggle against physical teams. We can't allow teams to push us around. We have to be physical back."
