Athlete of the Year

Maria Jimenez

Vineland, Sr.

Set the state javelin record at the Cape-Atlantic League championships when she threw 160 feet, 8 inches. Won the state Group IV title and finished second at the Penn Relays and Meet of Champions. Will attend Monmouth University on a partial scholarship.

Finished third in the state Group II dash in 12.7 seconds to qualify for the Meet of Champions.

Buena Regional, Jr.

Was third in the state Group II race in 25.27 and finished ninth at the MOC. Won the CAL championship in 25.3.

Won race at CAL championship in 58.7 seconds. Fourth in the South Jersey Group IV meet in 58.41.

Set the Cape-Atlantic League record in the 400 hurdles (1:00.26) to win at the Meet of Champions. Also won the South Jersey Group II 100 hurdles in 14.68 seconds.

Cumberland Regional, Sr.

Cleared 5-6 to win the state Group III title and place seventh at the MOC.

Long jump

Yvonne Wolef

Middle Township, Sr.

South Jersey Group II champion with an 18-11/2 leap. Fourth in Group II at the state meet. Will attend Franklin Pierce University.

Triple jump

Samantha Rodriguez

Southern Reg., Sr.

Second in South Jersey Group IV (38-3) and third in the state meet (38-101/2). Also finished second in 100 hurdles at the South Jersey meet.

Throws

Shot put

Alexis Kennedy

Millville, Sr.

Finished second in Group IV (39-2). Threw 42-01/2 for second at the South Jersey meet. Committed to Temple University.

Discus

Brianna Young

Barnegat, Jr.

Threw 124-7 for fifth place at the MOC. Won the South Jersey Group II discus with a 131-4 toss and was second in the state meet.

Pole vault

Chelsea Vaughan

Southern Reg., Sr.

Vaulted 12-0 to win at this month's Meet of Champions, giving the Rams their 11th all-time victory in the girls MOC. Also won at state and sectional Group IV meets. Committed to University of Cincinnati.

Utility

Dana Ohlson

Southern Reg., Sr.

Second in Group IV in the high jump (5-4) and long jump (18-3). Won South Jersey high jump and long jump and placed third in the 100 hurdles to help Rams win the team title.

Relay teams

Southern Regional 4x400-meters

Mikaela Hammel, Carly Burnup, Brianna Angellella, Michele Simmons

The foursome ran the area's fastest time - 3:52.05 - to finish third in Group IV. Won the South Jersey race to help Southern clinch its sixth sectional title in seven years.

Buena Regional 4x400

Casey Sturts, Emely Ramirez, Andrea Olsen, Helena Leyrer

Finished sixth at the biggest meet of the season, the season-ending Meet of Champions, this month in 3:53.32.
