Mike Trout update

Mike Trout of Millville is a rookie outfielder with the Los Angeles Angels. Trout, 21, is a 2009 Millville High School graduate who was The Press Player of the Year that season.

Sunday: 0-for-4 with a strikeout in a 2-1 loss at Seattle.

Season statistics (through Sunday):

G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI

111 454 107 151 22 6 25 74

SB CS BB SO .AVG OBP SLG OPS

42 4 47 106 .333 .396 .573 .968

Notes: Trout’s lead in the American League batting race (.333) is two percentage points over Detroit’s Miguel Cabrera (.331). ... Trout also leads the AL in runs and stolen bases.

Quotes: Trout was asked what it would mean to win the American League Rookie of the Year and Most Valuable Player awards. “Not much,” he said in a USA Today story. “That stuff doesn't mean anything unless you make the playoffs. The first goal is to make the playoffs. Whatever it takes, that’s what we’re going to do.”
