Stone Harbor rookie lifeguard Sean McCall, 20, won the T. John Carey Masters Ocean Swim in 20 minutes, 6 seconds on Saturday morning at 34th Street beach in Ocean City. Hayley Edwards of Pilesgrove Township, 21, was fifth overall in the 1-mile race and won her fourth straight women's title in 20:30.

Margate lifeguard Pat Flynn, 17, took second overall in 20:16. Devin McCall, 18, Sean's brother and also a Stone Harbor rookie, finished third with the same time as Flynn. Lexi Santer, 16, of Wilmington, Del., finished second among women in 21:04. North Wildwood lifeguard Erin Regan, 18, was third in 22:26.

Sean McCall is a La Salle University swimmer. He was second in the Carey Swim last year in his first attempt.

"Knowing the course helped this year," McCall said. "It was perfect conditions and the water temperature was about 20 degrees warmer than last year. Things went great after the final turn because I caught a wave and it helped to push me to the beach. That's how I won.

"It's definitely an honor to win it. I know it's a prestigious race and a lot of good swimmers have won it. It's nice to be in there with them."

The crew of Wayne Mac-Murray and Bill Kindle won in 58 minutes, 59 seconds on Saturday in Seaview Harbor in Egg Harbor Township.

MacMurry is a veteran Upper Township lifeguard and Kindle a Wildwood Beach Patrol alumnus. Cape May's Steve Kowalik and Ed Giordano finished second in 59:06, and the alumni crew of Jim Swift (Margate) and Scott Jones (Ventnor) placed third in 59:23.
