The Upper Township Beach Patrol won four of the seven races and captured the Tri-Resort Lifeguard Championships team title on Tuesday at 44th Avenue beach in Sea Isle City. The Tri-Resort is an annual event between Upper, Sea Isle and Wildwood.
Upper scored 29 points, while Sea Isle, which had won five of the previous six Tri-Resort titles, was second with 24 points. Wildwood was third with 10.
Upper Township’s other Tri-Resort championships were in 2000, 2005 and 2010.
Pat Curran of UT started the evening by scoring a win in the singles row in 6 minutes, 3 seconds.
Upper Township’s Ford Palmer, Amanda Eller and Spenser Popeson took the 3x1-mile beach run relay in 15:55.
Brothers Jon O’Neil and Joe O’Neil won the doubles row for Upper in 16:38, and teammates Rich Kelly and Kelly McHale won the mixed-doubles row. That winning time was not available.
Sea Isle City won the other three races.
The Sea Isle team of Jeff Buyse, Chris DeFoney and Madison Meyer won the paddleboard relay in 15:30.
Sea Isle’s Blake Trabuchi-Downey was the overall winner of the swim, which had three swimmers for each patrol and was scored like cross country. Trabuchi-Downey’s time was 7:30, and teammates Meyer (8:15) and Sean Staerk (8:29) were second and third, respectively, for a perfect score of 6.
Sea Isle’s Mike Hoban, Pat Lombard, Jessie Emanuele and Erich Negaard won the surf dash. The time was not available.
