Rob Barber went 3-for-3 with four RBIs to help seventh-seeded Egg Harbor City defeat No. 2 Absecon 9-3 in Game 1 of their Atlantic County Baseball League first-round playoff series Monday in Absecon.
Josh Wagner allowed two earned runs in 61/3 innings and struck out three to earn the win. George Homan hit a two-run double for Egg Harbor City, and Brian LoSasso added two hits and two runs scored.
Anthony Cocuzza went 4-for-4 for Absecon.
Game 2 is today at 7 p.m. in Egg Harbor City.
Hammonton 4, Ventnor 2: Matt Ingemi and Mike Crescenzo had two-run singles in the sixth inning at third-seeded Hammonton.
Winning pitcher Trevor Raosenberg struck out five in six innings.
Ventnor, the sixth seed, got home runs from Juan Mejia (third inning) and Junior Mejia (fifth) to take a 2-0 lead.
Ventnor’s Brett Kennedy allowed three hits in six innings, striking out 10.
Game 2 is today at Ventnor at 7 p.m.
Margate 6, Egg Harbor Township 0: Margate’s Lou Pepper pitched a one-hitter, allowing no hits until EHT’s Rob Algeo singled up the middle with two outs in the top of the seventh inning.
Pepper struck out 11, and walked one in the third inning.
Pat Goodwin (three runs) made it 1-0 Margate in the third inning as he doubled, stole third and scored on a passed ball.
Margate went up 4-0 in the sixth inning as Steve Schrenk hit a two-run homer and Magic Mears had a solo home run. Margate added two runs in the fifth inning.
EHT pitcher Jordan Chambers went six innings and struck out seven.
Top-seeded Margate plays at No. 8 Egg Harbor Township at 7 p.m. today at the Delaware Avenue field in EHT.
Northfield 2, Wildwood 1: Northfield pitcher Jared Lenko went the distance and scattered six hits, with three strikeouts and one walk.
Northfield, the No. 4 seed, scored the winning run in the bottom of the sixth inning. Billy Kern singled and Eric Fitzgerald reached on a fielder’s choice, Jim Hanson singled and a passed ball put runners on second and third.
Kolya Stephenson hit into a fielder’s choice to drive in the winning run. Hanson was 2-for-3 with an RBI and Mike Adams was 1-for-3 with a run.
For fifth-seeded Wild-wood, Nick Palmer was 1-for-3 and scored a run. Joe Couch went six innings and struck out five.
Game 2 is today at 7 p.m. in Wildwood.
