Margate beat visiting Northfield 6-3 on Charlie Law's three-run homer in the bottom of the ninth inning Wednesday and advanced to the Atlantic County Baseball League playoff finals. Margate won the semifinal series 2-1.
Margate meets Absecon in a best-of-five league championship series starting Monday at 7 p.m. in Margate.
Northfield scored a run in the top of the eighth inning when Eric Fitzgerald doubled and scored on a squeeze bunt. But Margate's Ross Costello hit a solo homer with two outs in the bottom of the inning to send it to the ninth.
Margate's Doug Hiltner pitched the ninth inning to pick up the win in relief of Tim Crawford.
Northfield pitcher Kolya Stephenson went 8 innings. Fitzgerald had two hits for Northfield.
Absecon 9, Hammonton 5: Mike Hampton pitched a complete game, striking out six, and Absecon rallied from a 4-0 deficit to win the deciding Game 3 of the semifinal series.
Absecon advanced to the championship series for the first time since re-entering the league eight years ago.
Kevin Cicali's two-run double highlighted Absecon's three-run fourth inning that cut the score to 4-3. Absecon then scored five runs in the sixth inning.
Cicali finished 3-for-4 with three RBIs. Dan Allen homered and walked. Kenny Morgenweck and Alex Scarlett each had two hits. E.J. Stoltzfus had a two-run double.
Matt Gabrielski homered and walked twice for Hammonton. Matt Ingemi went 2-for-3 with a hit by pitch and a run scored.
