The Margate 9-10 baseball team won the District 16 championship on Monday, beating Northfield 11-6 in Linwood. Margate went 4-0 in the district tournament.
Winning pitcher Jaden Millstein went three innings in the six-inning game, and had two triples and two RBIs. Margate’s Ted Grimley worked two innings of relief and J.J. Spotts pitched one. Also for Margate, Jake Lamonaca had two doubles and three RBIs, Jack Rovillard had a double and two RBIs, and Spotts added two hits. For Northfield, C.J. Brown had a single and a double.
Margate advanced to the Section 4 tournament.
District 16 9-10 softball
Hammonton 15, Cape May County 3: Sara Peretti pitched five innings, struck out eight and allowed just three runs as Hammonton won the championship. Nikki Raup scored three runs while Isabella Mortellite and Lexi Francks each had three hits and scored two runs. Mortellite, Francks and Mikaila Rodriguez each doubled for Hammonton.
Loren Perednas pitched three innings for Cape May County.
Hammonton advanced to Section 4, which begins Monday in Hammonton.
District 16 11-12 baseball
Hammonton 15, Middle Township 3 (five innings): Malachi Winters was the winning pitcher and hit a two-run homer. Also for visiting Hammonton, Giancarlo Palmieri had three hits and three RBIs, and Matt Angeline added two hits.
Hammonton plays Ocean City at 7 p.m. on Thursday in Middle Township.
Margate 10, Linwood 0 (four innings): Billy Kral pitched a complete game and allowed just two hits. Jake Hankinson had two home runs and six RBIs for Margate. Dan Lamonaca had two hits and three RBIs and Owen Kramer doubled.
Margate advanced to the District 16 finals on Monday at 5:30 p.m. in Margate.
Ocean City 10, Somers Point 0 (five innings): Pitchers Cole Vanderslice and Dan Nunan combined for the shutout. Jesse Schmizer had three hits. Nunan, Vanderslice, Soloman Griffith and Donovan Graham each had two hits for Ocean City.
District 3 14-U baseball
Buena 12, South Vineland 8: George DiBiase and Dom Lopez each reached base four times as Buena defeated previously unbeaten South Vineland. Mike Curcio had an RBI and Cody Jelinek hit a three-run double for Buena, which will play in the winners tournament in South Vineland on Friday and Saturday.
