West Cumberland opened the Senior League Softball World Series with a 5-2 win over Woodbridge, Del., on Sunday in Roxana, Del.

West Cumberland, the East representative, scored three runs in the fourth inning and added two more in the fifth thanks to a pair of errors by Woodbridge, the host team.

Brooke Coleman went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Lindsay Dwyer scored a run and had two RBIs. Kodi Pollock had a run and an RBI. Pitchers Coleman and Shayla Loud combined for the win.

West Cumberland plays at 8 p.m. today against Guam, representing Asia-Pacific.

Egg Harbor Township 12-and-under softball: The Egg Harbor Township Tornadoes split two games at the Babe Ruth 12-and-under softball World Series in Alachua, Fla. EHT beat Litchfield, N.H., 2-1 in the morning before dropping a 2-1 decision to defending champion Ovieda, Fla., in a night game.

In the win over Litchfield, Megan Warker had three hits while Ella Glenn and Tori Szrom had two each.

Against Ovieda, Warker started and allowed a run in the first inning but then drove in the tying run in the fourth. However, Ovieda scored the winning run in the top of the sixth. Szrom doubled in that game, and Cris McElhinney had a hit.

Egg Harbor Township finished pool play 3-1 and starts double-elimination bracket play today as the No. 2 seed from its group. The final is Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
