The ShopRite LPGA Classic will hold a new event dubbed The Battle on the Bay on Sunday.

Nine golfers will tee it up on the Bay Course at Stockton Seaview Hotel and Golf Club in Galloway Township.

The winner will earn a sponsor’s exemption to the $1.5 million, 54-hole tournament that starts Friday.

Joanna Coe, a 2007 Oakcrest High School graduate and a Mays Landing native, is scheduled to tee off at noon.

Kelly Sim, a junior at Academy of Holy Angels in Demarest, Bergen County, will tee off at 12:20 p.m. Megha Ganne, a 12-year-old from Holmdel who competed in the Drive, Chip, & Putt finals held at Augusta National Golf Club the week before the Masters, also will tee off at 12:20 p.m.

The field also includes LPGA players Julieta Granada and Alison Walshe. Admission is free for spectators.

Golf tournaments often use sponsor exemptions as way to get popular players into its field. The Classic has three exemptions this year. The tournament gave one to Natalie Gulbis, one of the LPGA’s most popular players. Indian golfer Sharmilla Nicollet got the second sponsor’s exemption by winning an online Twitter poll.
