Local minor-leaguers: Colon reaches base three times

DH Alexi Colon (St. Augustine Prep) went 2-for-3 with a walk and an RBI for the Eugene Emeralds (Padres) in a 3-2 loss to the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes in the short-season Class-A Northwest League on Sunday. Colon is hitting .200 with two home runs through 24 games. He went 1-for-4 with a homer against the Volcanoes on Saturday night.

CF Darren Ford (Vineland) went 0-for-3 with a walk as the Tacoma Rainiers (Mariners) lost 5-3 to the Tucson Padres in the first game of a doubleheader in the triple-A Pacific Coast League. The second game ended too late. Ford was hitting .315 with 22 stolen bases through 37 games. He went 4-for-5 with a grand slam, a double, six RBIs, two runs scored and two stolen bases Saturday night against Tucson.

CF Matt Szczur (Lower Cape May Regional) and the Tennessee Smokies had the day off. Szczur, who is 1-for-8 since being promoted to the double-A Southern League, is hitting .290 in 80 games overall this season. He has 68 runs scored and 38 stolen bases.

LHP Scott DeCecco (Middle Township) is 1-1 with a 3.86 ERA in nine appearances, including three starts, for the Everett AquaSox (Mariners) of the Northwest League. DeCecco’s next start likely will be Tuesday or Wednesday at Eugene.

RHP A.J. Holland (Holy Spirit) is 1-1 with a 5.23 ERA in 10 apperances, including nine starts, for the Rome Braves of the Class-A South Atlantic League. Holland’s next start likely will be today or Tuesday against the Augusta GreenJackets.
